I found a user who had a curious problem, the incoming mail had the wrong time, in practice was an hour behind. Nothing serious, but it was annoying. Obviously occurred after the clock on his computer and one where he resides on the Exchange server was not wrong, I narrowed the field to the Outlook 2003 client, since it was the only one with this situation. Among the forest of options in fact there is one that allows you to manipulate not only the date of mail, but also on the calendar. Obviously this option is not under the section E-Mail ….

So if you have this problem, the solution is to look under the menu in Outlook 2003 under Tools -> Options -> (Preferences tab) Calendar Options -> Time Zone

The window is activated, although under the heading calendar allows you to change the time zone, or as in my case, to turn on “daylight saving.”

Recently, after some upgrades of Mozilla Firefox, i have found some extensions disabled because no longer compatible with the new version of the browser. In particular I refer to “2 pc sync syncronization” extension of Nokia PC Suite amd Framework 3.5 Microsoft extension. This extensions, in my opinion, are unnecessary especially because is installed their own during a setup.

The problem of  that extension is in fact are already been disabled, because no longer compatible, but remains in the extension list until to an update, where can be automatically reinstalled. This situation seems irreversible because the “uninstall” button is no longer activated. If you wish you can delete them with a little surgery on the registry of your Windows. So follow the instructions at your own risk.

Open Regedit (start -> run -> regedit [return])
navigate in your left until you find the entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Firefox\extensions
First we prepared a good backup of this key, right mouse button, choose “Export” to save where you like (to restore just a simple double click on the saved file).
Now focus our attention on the right side of Regedit, you should see the entries “locked” in our case it is the voice bkmrksync@nokia.com and just above a path that clearly draws on .NET framework from Microsoft.

We need to eliminate it, with the right button on the item you selected, and then “delete” command.
Start Firefox and “magically” extensions blocked are missing from the list.

Windows 7 have own Logon UI customizable option. The new operating system support loading images as background for login screen without using third-party software.

Be careful, you have to change something in the Windows Registry, proceed with your own responsability.

1. Open the registry (start -> run -> regedit or WindowsKey -> regedit) 
2. find the key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background
3. if not present create a new DWORD called OEMBackground with value 1 (0 for disable)
4. Registry is done, now we must place the backround in right place. The default folder is %windir%\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds
5. if the directory backgrounds is not present, make new one
6. put inside the new backrounds, but the are some pre-requisites. The file must less than 256KB. The name of file must be backgroundDefault.jpg. Is good idea make backround at same resolution of your screen, otherwise image will strech-to-fit

On home pc  i’ve changed (from Windows update) the internet explorer version 7 from default one (version 6.x). The installation seems working fine but sometimes browser go in crash, especially when i open “options” menu.
Crash windows report problem to PSAPI.dll.

The problem born from a duplicate dll, and different to original one, an made Windows is in trouble. To solve this situation simply

1. open Start -> search psapi.dll on entire computer.
2. Rename all psapi.dll in psapi.dll-old except for file located inside C:\Windows\Systems32 directory.
3. Restart your computer.

If you have a Windows XP Professional and your shutdown process is very slow (you must wait minutes before shutdown command and computer is really powered off) is possible the computer cache try to empty virtual memory, and ibernation cache. This option is usually turned off by default, but third parts programs can re-enabled it.

Open, from start -> run, gpedit.msc
With this hidden tools of windows xp (only professional edition) navigate on left tree to:
Computer configuration – Windows Settings -Security Settings -Local policies – Security options.

Now on right panel, search the “voice”:
Shutdown: Clear virtual memory pagefile
and be sure the value is DISABLED

Now restart your computer, and try re-shutdown pc.

Bonjour, also formerly know as “RendezVous”, is show on windows services also a mDNSResponder. Thi is an Apple software an be used to exchange music or media between ITunes services and Apple to your MP3 or computer.

Not to bad, but this program is installed in a hidden mode by lot of software installations.  Is possible to deactivate this service. Open command line “start -> run -> cmd”
and write:

sc stop “Bonjour Service”
sc delete “Bonjour Service”

include also the quotes. The first command stop the service, and the second delete it.

Google is a powerful search engine, below there are some commands for a better search result’s.

- (minus) e.g president -obama
when the minus is before a word, this search all presidents excluded the results containing words (obama in my example).

Inside the search the word “the” usually is not considerated, if you want add it explicity put a + before the article

the words inside ” ” force the search to must be completed like inserted and not scattered on the page. Try yourself with and without quotes.

asteriscs works as undefined word(s), in this example * can be a number or whatelse

will extend all synonymous words (in this example the word choose is extend to pick or choosing)

Whoops.. in Windows Vista and Seven the UAC (User Account Control) force the run (windows key + R) to running in your own userlevel. If you run CMD, the shell don’t have administrator privileges. Really boring, if you want to run some command in admin you have to follow this easy steps.

Choose from Start -> All programs -> Accessories, right click on Command prompt and Run as Administrator. You’ll be prompted to approve the action.

Few days ago i’ve installed Vmware player. On machine restart, at logon screen, i’m notice about new user account. Annoying ghost user appear every Windows start, and i must choose my useraccount for type the password (before password field appear automatically). Well i’ts a good idea to hide this user from logon screen.

BE CAREFUL, this hack require changes inside Windows Registry…

First with mouse right click on my computer -> manage (or run / CTRL + R and command compmgmt.msc /s) i’ve see the exactly name of user account, in my case is _vmware_user_

Next open the registry (CTRL + R then regedit) and find the key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

here i’ve created a new key (like a folder) called SpecialAccounts (be careful it’s case sensitive!). Now inside this key i’ve created another key called UserList

Now inside the UserList create a new DWORD (32bit value) with the exactly username will be hided (e.g. _vmware_user_) with the value zero. After ok will show 0×00000 it’s ok.

Restart your computer, and the logon must show only your real user
